Request for Foreign Language Substitution
Students who present appropriate documentation qualifying them for a foreign language accommodation may be allowed to substitute two courses to satisfy this requirement. (WC catalog Distribution Requirements: 2-D pg. 35).
Procedure
- The student should consult with the Director of the Office of Academic Skills and submit appropriate documentation which verifies a foreign-language or language-based learning disability.
- The Director will forward the request to the Office of the Provost and Dean.
- If the petition is honored, the student can choose (2) courses from the approved alternative course list in lieu of 2 semesters of a foreign language.

Below are some examples of combinations of foreign culture courses that meet the spirit of the foreign language substitution policy.
A student may choose two courses from among the following clusters (Please be aware that some courses may have prerequisites. It is the student's responsibility to verify s/he may take the course requested in consultation with her/his advisor. Special topics courses may be considered if deemed an appropriate substitution upon review of the Chair of the Foreign Language Department.
